More Space, More Light: Transforming Homes in Petersfield
At Our Space, we don’t just build—we bring visions to life. When our clients in Petersfield approached us to transform their four-bedroom bungalow, we knew this was an opportunity to create a contemporary, light-filled home that balanced style with functionality. Working closely with residential architects, GRK Architecture, we developed a design that embraced open-plan living, maximised natural light, and provided a seamless indoor-outdoor connection.
Building a Smarter, Brighter Home
The original layout felt too segmented, limiting both natural light and the flow between spaces. Our solution? A complete reconfiguration that introduced expansive glazing, floor-to-ceiling bi-fold doors, and strategically placed skylights, ensuring every corner of the home felt bright and airy. The result was a more connected, inviting environment, where family life and entertaining could thrive.
Externally, the design needed to complement the surrounding landscape while maintaining a crisp, modern aesthetic. We achieved this through a combination of cedar cladding and white render, blending warmth with contemporary sophistication. This not only enhanced the home’s curb appeal but also helped it settle beautifully into the natural setting of the South Downs.
Inside, the transformation was just as striking. By opening up the kitchen and living spaces, we created a dynamic, multi-purpose heart of the home—perfect for everything from family movie nights to hosting guests. Every material and finish was carefully chosen to balance durability with refined style, ensuring the space remained both practical and elegant for years to come.
Navigating Challenges, Building Smart Solutions
Situated in the South Downs, the project required careful navigation of strict planning regulations to preserve the area’s character and biodiversity. We worked closely with the local authority to ensure the home met all requirements while still delivering on the client’s vision.
One of the initial design elements included a roof terrace, but privacy concerns from neighbouring properties led us to revise this into a Juliet balcony. This maintained the sense of openness and connection to the outdoors while respecting the surrounding homes.
Sustainability was also at the heart of the project. To align with environmental guidelines, we incorporated:
✔ Water recycling systems to enhance efficiency
✔ A discreet composting solution for sustainable waste management
✔ Soil management strategies to protect the surrounding landscape during construction
✔ Bat and bird boxes to support local wildlife and biodiversity
By integrating these eco-conscious solutions, we ensured that the home wasn’t just beautiful, but also built with long-term sustainability in mind.
A Home Designed and Built for the Future
This project wasn’t just about modernising a bungalow—it was about creating a home that evolves with family life. Whether it’s enjoying an open, light-filled space today or adapting to future needs, the new layout ensures lasting flexibility and comfort.
By working in close partnership with GRK Architecture, we were able to bring an ambitious design to life, delivering a home that blends contemporary aesthetics, functionality, and environmental responsibility.
If you’re dreaming of transforming your home, Our Space is here to make it happen. Let’s build something extraordinary together.
